Mahlet is constantly searching for new ways to improve efficiency and reliability in the areas of digital communications. This quest of finding an efficient network topology led to innovative implementation solutions which resulted in a patent being granted to the founder of Mahlet Consulting, Inc. The patent, titled Method and System for Span-Based Connection Aggregation, was designed to enhance intelligent optical networks to gain efficiencies and scale. While many networks can recover quickly from one or two transmission failures, this invention allows a fast recovery from simultaneous failure of multiple network paths. It bundles individual optical network connections into a mesh that acts as a dedicated single span: this eases the burden on the network operator. The algorithm used to manage the mesh keeps the bundled mesh transparent to the end nodes – therefore, there is no loss in throughput or productivity.

Mahlet has also extensively worked on the development of an intelligent control plane for transport and switching communication devices. This work required an in-depth understanding of hardware and digital design, implementation of these designs on FPGA’s and ASICs, and finally integrating them on PCB (printed circuit board) design for prototyping and testing before manufacturing commences. The team at Mahlet Consulting, Inc has extensive and detailed development experience in both Xilinx and Altera FPGA devices to enable the efficient implementation of a digital signal processing to complete system designs. Members of the team have participated in other digital design areas that included passive security and active jamming applications. The team has also been involved in development efforts that have resulted in several subsystems that address LAN/WAN technologies (SONET/SDH, OTN, PDH, Ethernet) and long haul optical transport systems and the supporting components (DWDM, EDFA, Raman Amps , Optical transport rates from 2.5 Gbps to 100 Gbps).
